Dear gdixon1401,

After very careful and extensive research, I came to the conclusion
that you might be slightly wrong concerning the way the brand is
spelled. 'Barrett's Ginger Beer' does, at it seems, not exist anywhere
in the world.

However, I found out, that the same misspelling occured on a website
where cocktails and other specialty drinks from the Bermudas are
Here, a beverage called 'Barrett's Ginger Beer' is mentioned as part
of a Bermuda drink called 'Dark and Stormy'. This brought me to
searching for 'Bermuda Ginger Beer', and I was successful:

On the Bermuda Islands, 'Barritt's Ginger Beer' (please note the
slight difference in spelling while the pronounciation is very much
the same) is a very popular beverage. And it is distributed to many
countries of the world via the Internet.

You can order it directly from the manufacturers in the Bermudas, John
Barritt & Son Ltd.; they ship 12 ounce cans as well of the standard
drink and of the Sugar Free version by request.
Please place phone orders by calling: (441) 236 - 7171

The following online distributors are recommended by John Barritt &
Son Ltd.:
Offers 12 12oz-bottles of Barritt's Bermuda Stone Ginger Beer for
Phone: 877-544-6767, Inc.
Offers 12 12oz-bottles of Barritt's Ginger or Pineapple Ginger Beer,
for $16.99.
1 East Oak Street, Suite 3E
Chicago, IL 60611
Phone: 847-604-7212
Offers single 12oz-bottles of Barritt's Ginger Beer for $0.99 each
POP The Soda Shop
2015 N. Scottsdale Rd.
Scottsdale, Arizona 85257
Phone: 1-877-POP-SODA

You need not necissarily order Barritt's Ginger Beer via the Internet,
since the manufacturer provides a list of all distributors in the USA:
With a bit of luck, one of the retail dealers is located not too far
away from your place of residence, so you might be able to buy the
beverage directly at the counter.

Search terms used:
"barrett's ginger beer":
"bermuda ginger beer":
"barritt's ginger beer":
"John Barritt & Son Ltd":

I hope I was able to locate the right beverage for you. If so, please
enjoy your future drinks.

Under the original spelling, I found the following information:

Millenium Yearbook - Industrial Heritage, Page 18 (last update may
16th 2002)

"R. A. Barrett & Co. - Ashton-under-Lyne
Barretts & Company was the area's premier soft drink manufacturing
company for most of the 20th century.
It was started in the 1860s when Adam Barrett set up shop on the
corner of Brook Street and Welbeck Street in Ashton-under-Lyne.
Alongside general provisions Barrett sold ginger beer which he made at
the back of shop.

It wasn't long before he was renowned for his ginger beer and in 1873
his son Richard established a small ginger beer factory on Berkeley
Street. Three years later he was joined by his brother-in-law, James
Makin, and they began producing other soft drinks and mineral waters.
The company became known as R.A. Barrett and adopted its
diamond-shaped trademark.

During the early 1900s the company expanded still further, employing
more than 100 workers and exporting throughout the north west.
Barrett's also had the distinction of being the first company in the
area to purchase motor-driven vehicles for delivery and, after the
First World War, it diversified and began producing health powders,
gravy powders and vinegar.

In 1947 the Barrett family involvement in the company ended, but the
firm continued under new owners. The family link was resumed in 1955
when Harold Livesay, who was related to the Barrett family by
marriage, bought the company. Barretts continued to produce soft
drinks until February 1977."
