Hello,

We have acquired a Foxpro 6 database that we need to access, but we
don't have the Foxpro software. I've found Visual Foxpro 8 on
Microsoft.com to be roughly $650. Is this overkill??

The description reads:

"Visual FoxPro 8.0 provides the tools you need to create and manage
high-performance, 32-bit database applications and components."

It seems like it's software for developers. We're not interested in
creating any database applications- we just want to open the one we
got. Do we need VF 8? Would it be better to try and find a VF 6 or 7?

Thanks.

Ed

Why not try importing it into Access.

(Only guessing!)

probonopublico-ga,

That's a good idea, but from my understanding you can't import Foxpro
directly into Access. You would have to first export it into
something like Excel, which you would need the Foxpro software to do
anyway, is that correct?

Do you want to use the Foxpro database application or access the data?
Do you need Foxpro 6 runtime DLLs? You can get something that might
help from http://www.indigorose.com/sf/runtime_modules.php

Hi, Ed

I've never used Visual FoxPro 8.0 so I don't know the answer.

However, my suggestion would have worked with earlier versions.

It's worth giving it a try.

go to http://www.rentacoder.com, post a project, 'Importing Foxpro
Database to Access', price it 25$, and I am sure you would a lot of
people bidding for the opportunity :)
