Hello wryter~

There are many software applications that will turn a Word doc into a
PDF file--but most are also for the Windows platform. Nonetheless, you
might consider:

* GoBLC: http://www.gohtm.com/convert_pdf2.asp
* Adobe: https://createpdf.adobe.com/index.pl/1565417494.62133?BP=IE
(will give you 5 free PDF files; free registration required)

If you'll be making conversions frequently, you might consider
spending $69 for PStill: http://www.stone.com/PStill/PStill.html

There's no way to make a pdf file from within the application, such as
you can do in Quark Xpress?

MS Word does not have a function to automatically turn a document into
a PDF file, no.

If you are using OSX, you can save any document to PDF. Select the
Print from the File menu, then in the dialog box, choose the save as
PDF option.
