I would like to know how many doctor visits there are in the U.S. for
tinnitus (ringing in the ears) each year. The doctors that treat

Hi ekw70!

According to the American Tinnitus Association, out of the 50 million
Americans that suffer form tinnitus, 12 million seek medical attention
each year.

?The ATA estimates that over 50 million Americans experience tinnitus
to some degree. Of these, about 12 million have severe enough tinnitus
to seek medical attention. And about two million patients are so
seriously debilitated that they cannot function on a "normal,"
day-to-day basis.?

According to the University of Virginia Tinnitus Clinic, 12 to 15
million people seek medical attention for tinnitus.

?Although 50 million Americans experience "ringing" sounds in their
ears to come degree, 12 to 15 million of them suffer tinnitus severely
enough to seek medical attention. Ten percent of these sufferers are
so seriouly debilitated that they cannot function normally.?

From Audiological Consultants of Atlanta:

?Tinnitus("tinn'- nit - us" or "tin - night - us"), or ringing in the
ears, is a common problem affecting about one out of every six people
in the United States alone (44-50 million people). About 10-12
million of these people experience tinnitus severe enough to cause
them to seek medical attention.?

?Tinnitus is defined by the American Tinnitus Association as ?the
perception of sound when no external sound is present, it is often
referred to as ringing in the ears. It can take the form of hissing,
roaring, whistling, chirping or clicking? (American Tinnitus
Association [ATA]). Thousands of people suffer from this same, often
disturbing head noise. It has been recorded that between 36 to 50
million Americans suffer from this problem. Of these ?about 12
million suffer severely enough to seek medical attention? (ATA) and "7
million are affected so badly that they can not lead normal lives?
(Casano). These numbers show that about 17% of the American society
is affected by tinnitus.?

Hello bobbie7-ga!

Thank you for the information that you provided. The number of
patients seeking medical treatment is very helpful. I'm also wondering
if there is a figure for the number of visits to otolaryngologists or
audiologists per year for this illness. I'll gladly pay a tip for that
info!

Dear ekw70,

I'm sorry to say that I failed to locate a figure for the number of
visits to otolaryngologists or audiologists per year for this illness.

If I discover this data during my other research I will post the information here.

Sincerely,
Bobbie7
