I know this is overkill, but I was wondering if there is a device that
can be used to see inside walls in the same way that the secret
service agents do in the movie "In the Line of Fire" (the one with
Clint Eastwood as a secret service agent). I want to drill some holes
in my walls near the ground and I want to avoid the electrical wiring.

Yes, I know this is dramatic overkill, but I'm a gadget freak and I
was hoping that perhaps there was a device that was less than $200
(perhaps a cheaper one might use a laptop instead of having its own
screen) that would allow me to look inside walls and see all the
wiring, etc. This would also be one heck of a stud finder! *laugh*

If there aren't any that are cheap then I guess I'll just shut off the
power and drill and hope for the best.

This may sound strange, but the cheapest solution would be a simple
compass. Electric cables and wires are surrounded by a magnetic field
that causes a compass' needle to react. Electricians really use this
reliable method to locate wiring in walls.

A borescope is one way to see what's behind your walls, but Clint
Eastwood's character from "In the Line of Fire" would probably sniff
at it:

Thermal infrared camera,....will show you what is in your wall.....
you may be able to hire a local inspector to come to your home and
provide you with a picture report... poss/fee $100-300...however
this type of small thermal camera is relativly new in the inspection
industry...if you can't find a home inspector with a camera...you
might...try a water damage company.....a good sized water damage
company will be using infrared to see in the walls......:)
