I have a local spreadsheet file in Excel 2003. I add values to a cell
and hyperlink to a website. How can I have that open up the hyperlink
in an _existing_ Internet Explorer instance? It always launches a new
instance on me. I need it to be an existing instance because all my
hyperlinks are on pages that require authentication.

Clarification of Question by davidredekop-ga on 01 Jul 2004 15:19 PDT
I should have specified - the hyperlink to a website can be an
existing instance in any running browser - Internet Explorer suits me
just fine. So, if I have Internet Explorer already running and
authenticated on a certain website, I now want the excel hyperlink to
open up the page on the IE instance that is already authenticated.

Hi, try this...it worked for me.

Locate the excel file on your computer. Right click and then click
"open with". Choose internet explorer to open the excel file. This
will open the file with all the excel functionality but within
internet explorer.

When you click a hyperlink, it opens the web page within this same
instance of internet explorer. Hit the back button to go back to the
excel workbook.

This may not be exactly what you want, but it definitely opens the
hyperlink in the existing instance of IE.

Good luck.
