I am investigating the death of a woman who died in London, England, in 1936.

According to her Death Certificate, the Cause of Death was 'Poisoning
by a barbituate and hypnotic drug possibly Soneral. Insufficient
evidence as to circumstances. Open Verdict'.

There was a Post Mortem and an inquest but, as yet, I haven't received
permission to see the Coroner's Records which are closed for 75 years.

The barbituate can probably be explained by the fact that she was
suffering from sciatica which can be very painful but why the hypnotic
drug?

Could there be some occult significance, as has been suggested?

Or maybe Soneral was both a barbiturate and a hypnotic drug?

Many thanks!

Yes .... I think I've now got a fix on this, if you will forgive the expression.
