I need bankruptcy related statistics, to complete a comparison study
of bankruptcy costs and cases nationwide. The information I need is
nationwide, not by state.

I am comparing the last fiscal year ('02-'03)of bankruptcy system
operations against any year in the early 1960's (1960-1965). While
information for any single year, during that 5 year period would
suffice, I would prefer the information for each of those 5 years, if
at all possible.

I need, for both the close in ('02-'03) and far out (1960-1965)years,
this information: (i)the actual costs incurred in running the
bankruptcy system in each of those years, and (ii) the number of new
bankruptcy cases filed, and old cases closed, in each of those years,
and (iii) the number of employees of the bankruptcy system (judge's
offices, court clerk's offices and US Trustee's offices) in each of
those years

Note that the US Trustee system did not arise until 1980. Costs and
employees for '02-'03 must include the entire US Trustee system (which
is a part of the larger bankruptcy system), broken down separately
from the bankruptcy system itself.

In addition to its actual employees, the US Trustee system supervises
the work of independant )non-employee)panel trustees, and I need to
know as well the number of panel trustees in '02-'03.

You should know that until 1979, there was a federalally administered
fund, know as the Referee's Salary and Expense Fund, probably
administered by the Administrative Office of the US Courts, into which
the $50.00 filing fees for each new bankruptcy case were paid, and
from which the costs of operating the system were paid. I need to
verify, as well, that the revenue going into that fund in the 5 target
years (1960-1965) exceeded the expenses being paid out.i.e. that the
fund was solvent in each of those years.

A good starting point will be the Administrative Office of the US
Courts. Also, I believe that the US government publishes a yearly
Statistical Abstract, which may be of help.

You should know that the bankruptcy court became an independant court
in 1979, so the Administrative Office will have information indexed in
its name for '022-'03. Before 1979, the bankruptcu court was a branch
of the US District Court, and the necessary information may only be
available through analysis of the Referee's Salary and Expense Fund.
For the 5 target years, we need only bankruptcy costs and employees,
not costs or employees associated with the broader operation of the US
District Court.

I am generally familiar with the bankruptcy system, and am pleased to
help you with terminology issues, or anything else that may arise.

Note that the Administrative Office should have the information as to
the judiciary, and the bankruptcy system generally, but probably not
as to the US Trustee's office (which may formally be known as the
Office of the US Trustee). That office is a part of the US Justice
Department.

I need all of this information for my study. Developing only a part of
it will not work for me, as only a part of it is useless to me in
completing the comparison study.
