So you know which prison, or which year? Or at least which decade?
How about a year of birth?

rickwhitehurst-ga,

I'm posting this as a comment because I haven't been able to find a
definitive answer for you.

Searching Google for "William Franklin Fry" I was able to find one
link for Hillcrest East Cemetery that links Helen Shaw to Fry.
Unfortunately, it's for her grave, not his.

http://www.usgennet.org/usa/or/county/union1/hillcresteastsz.htm

Using Ancestry Plus (http://www.gale.ancestry.com/ggmain.htm), which
is a proprietary database, I found three possible entries.

From the Florida Death Index, I found the following:

William Franklin Fry
Died: 1955
Place: Union
vol.: 1760
certificate: 31243

William Franklin Fry
Death: Feb. 1966
Place: Duval
vol.: 2792
certificate: 8182

There was also an entry from the California Death Index
William Franklin Fry
Birth: 22 Aug 1892
Death: 2 Aug 1978
Birthplace: Texas
Deathplace: San Bernardino

In Florida, you can obtain a copy of the death certificate by writing
to:

Office of Vital Statistics, Dept. of Health
P.O. Box 210
1217 Pearl Street
Jacksonville, FL 32231-0042

Their phone and fax numbers are:
(904) 359-6900 Ext. 1029
Fax: (904) 359-6993

More specifics can be found at: http://www.vitalrec.com/fl.html

Based on what you've indicated above, the California entry is probably
not the right one, but in case it should be, you can write to:

Office of Vital Records
304 'S' Street
Sacramento, CA 95814

Their phone and fax numbers are:
(916) 445-1719 or (916) 445-2684
Fax: (800) 858-5553

And again, I suggest you consult http://www.vitalrec.com/ca.html for
more details.

You should be aware that some states will not release information to
people who are not immediate family members.

Hope this helps!

Sincerely
luciaphile-ga
