I am searching for the word "Schamuil", probably the name of a russian zar.
Secondly, "Rowdy" is probably a name of a litarary character,
mentioned by Maxim Gorky in an article. But I cannot find any
reference.
Can You help me?

Greetings Stubben:

I found a reference to a Tsar Samuel of Bulgaria (Samuel of Macedonia,
born about 0940, died 1018 slain at Durrachium according to
http://www.mathematical.com/bulgariasamuel940.html ) but nothing with
the spelling you provided. See
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=Samuel+czar+OR+tsar&btnG=Search

Although the spelling is radically different, pronunciation seems close.

Regarding Rowdy, there is a character by that name in a western story
by B.M. Bower (see http://arthurwendover.com/arthurs/western/rowdy10.html
) - not sure if that's the one, though. Clint Eastwood played a
character called Rowdy Yates in Rawhide but I don't know if that has
any relevance for your query.

Wish I could have been of more assistance.

Best regards,
journalist-ga

This Schamuil is said to have abolished the "blood revenge" as we say
in Norwegian, in the state of Daghestan. jl

Hi again Stubben:

According to http://www.ebooks-library.com/author.cfm/AuthorID/45
"B. M. Bower a.k.a. Bertha M. Bower (nee Muzzy)" was born Nov. 15,
1871 in Cleveland, Minnesota, and died on Jul. 23, 1940 in Los
Angeles, California.

Hope this helps. :)

Best regards,
journalist-ga
