So me clarification of your would be useful.

1. Are you interested only in undergraduate degrees, or are you
interested also in universities that have graduate programs in music?

2. Are you interested only in music-only institutions like Juilliard,
or are you interested also in colleges and universities that offer
undergraduate degrees in music performance or composition, for
example?

Pardon the typos in the first sentence above. It should read, "Some
clarification of your question would be useful."

Facts and Figures Concerning Music and Higher Education in the United States
The College Music Society
December 2003

There?s a lot of interesting information in this fact sheet.
http://www.music.org/InfoEdMusic/HigherEd/SumFacts.html

Unfortunately a breakdown between degree-granting and
non-degree-granting music programs is not provided.

Excerpt:
?There are 4,197 institutions in higher education in the United
States. Of these, approximately 1,799 institutions have
degree-granting or non-degree-granting music programs.?
