since the supreme court is often asked t interpret the constitution in
regard to an individual's rights, newspaper articles discussing US

Hello.

Okay, here is an article from The New York Times, February 25, 2004,
in which a specific issue and court case involving a constitutional
right is discussed:

As indicated in the article, the issue was whether a state can
withhold public scholarship money from students pursuing religious
studies. Student Joshua Davey had sued the State of Washington because
its scholarship program excluded students who were pursuing devotional
theology degrees.

The specific right discussed was "free exercise of religion."

In the case, the Supreme Court rejected Davey's claim, ruling 7-2 that
Washington's program was not a burden on Davey's right of free
exercise of religion.

Hi,

The 1st Amendment is the main one involved here:

Article I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

The 14th Amendment also comes into play because the case involved the
question of whether a state (Washington) was violating someone's
constitutional rights.

"Article XIV
...No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the
privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall
any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without
due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the
equal protection of the law..."
