Mattisse did a still life in which flowers from the decoration ON a
vase fall off and become real flowers (within the still life). What
is the name of the painting and where is it? I think it's in either
the MOMA or the MMA.

Hi,

I looked through what seems to be a very complete gallery of Matisse's
works (158 paintings) at
yet did not find anything resembling your description. He did paint a
number of flowers/vases, however....are you sure of your description?

I'm pretty sure that all that I said is correct. The site you
referred to is a poster site so I'm skeptical about it's completeness.
If you know of any other major painter's work which also has the same
idea of the pottery decoration also being portrayed as real, I would
likely consider it to be an answer. I do appreciate the work you've
done so far.

I wonder whether this painting might be by Magritte rather than
Matisse. Magritte often played with perceptions of images and reality.

Here's a typical Magritte "trompe l'oeil" painting :

Does this look like the general style of the painting you're looking for?
