Question ID: 369874
(This is such a cool Google feature)

Question:
I am a nobody with a regular job etc. (Nothing special) I want to
start my own line of sugar products. I don't want to make or produce
it (that's not my idea). I want someone else to make it and i want my
label on it. Who do I call/contact to get the process started? I
would prefer to use domestic channels since I am clueless on importing
etc.

Maybe you can come up with some clever tidbits of info--maybe
something I never thought of.

Cheers!

Hmmm...not quite sure what you're after, but have a look at this list of links:

http://www.promopeddler.com/Search.php?cat=Candy

All the companies listed here provide candy and sweets that are sort
of a blank slate, and you can add your own text, pictures, etc to the
labels, or even right on the candy itself.

Is this the sort of thing you're looking for?

Sorry to be so vague.

I don't want to make candies. I want to have my own line of Sugar.
(as in granulated sugar and confectioners sugar and brown sugar).
Does this help? I understand that sugar is a traded commodity, but I
don't think that should affect my pursuit.

Thanks.

Hello! Thanks for asking.

I've located (by reference/inference) several private label sugar
producers, and provided their contact information.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
U.S. SUGAR CORPORATION
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Reclosable zipper packaging has become so prevalent in recent years
that some may view it as a commodity. Not U.S. Sugar. The Buffalo,
NY?based private-label sugar producer/packager expects that this
year?s overall company sales will double from two years ago, when it
first introduced zippers to its plastic pillow bags of powdered and
brown sugars."

Creatively, you'd likely have much greater control if you bought sugar
in bulk -- truckload or train carload lots -- and worked with a custom
powder packager.

Wow! Thank you so much for the wonderful information. What I really
loved were the contacts (agencies) in Florida. I am from Florida so
that would be great to keep things local (within the state). You did
good work. Thank you!

I wonder if you might talk to a grocery store like Publix or a food
services distributor like Sysco that has its own brand. Sometimes they
work in-house, sometimes they outsource.

Also you might talk with established names like Dixie Crystals to see
about co-branding.

Since, essentially, sugar is sugar, your brand should signify
significant value to the consumer to compensate you with paying for
what results in naming rights. Good business be yours!

I never thought of that. Perhaps I will try that. But I wonder if
that would be a conflict of interest (for Dixie Crystals) since the
public would be purchasing my product and not theirs. Unless of
course it's their sugar with my name. They still get a percentage (or
price) on my sugar).

I don't care too much who makes it. I really want to have tight
control over marketing, advertising, distribution and branding.
