Greetings Halky:
I didn't locate but one slight reference in the area of your query but
I did find the snippet below at
http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0HTZ/is_1_134/ai_110263912
. It's a class study of still-life paintings based works of Matisse
including "Interior Flowers and Parrot"
"Once the drawings were established, we looked at another painting by
Matisse, Interior, Flowers and Parrot (1924). We used this painting to
examine the use of repeated colors. We observed reds repeated and
distributed all over the surface of the painting, as well as yellows
and blues. We realized that, as colorful as that painting seemed, it
was composed of variations of the primary color triad."

I would have posted this as an answer had I found additional
references but I had no luck even when adding various terms such as
study, commentary, discussion, essay and critique.
