This is a two part question because it relates to the integration of
two technologies--First is HDTV and the second is the capacity to
transmit high definition images (say around 1200X800 pixels) and
streaming media over the internet for viewing on computer monitors.
What I would like to learn about is the current state and predicted
growth in these areas
As I see it, there is growing quality of images on TV, as well as in
streaming media and videos presented over the internet. The latter
used to be limited by low transmission speed and bandwidth, and the
quality and speed of of graphics cards in computers.
It seems that as HDTV comes into our homes, we will be looking for
better quality images on our computers from internet connections.
Perhaps the two will become one!
Could you please describe the current state and expected growth of
High Definition Television in the United States? What percentage of
households have it, what percent are expected to have it in, say one,
and 5 years?
And second, how is the expected growth of computer data transmission
and display qualities such as bandwidth, processor and graphics card
speed expected to increase the quality of our computing experience in
1 to 5 years. For instance, will the TV and Computer technologies
converge? Will we be watching HDTV quality of images on our computer
monitors soon? (I think our monitors are already near HDTV
quality--right?)
Are there some data for current percentages and expected growth in these areas?
Will we be able to click into a website and watch a video travelog or
the like very soon? |
