Howdy janelaine-ga,
Being from Illinois, and having lived in northern Illinois for some time, the
immediate that popped into my head (and the head of my wife of 24 years, as of
July 1st) was Lake Geneva. It was described by USA Today's Travel Guide as one
of the "10 great places for that All American honeymoon." It is about an hour
away from Deerfield. An example is the "Lazy Cloud Lodge."

If this type of place appeals to you, I can work up a few more places in the
Lake Geneva area for you. Lake Geneva has some great (music, dancing, etc.)
night life as well.
Looking Forward, denco-ga - Google Answers Researcher

Two personal favorites:
Saugatuck, MI -- though it's quieter:

But if I were seeking a romantic getaway, I'd probably choose the
Kohler Resort in Sheboygan. It's a world-class resort, with golf and
other sporting activities:

Sheboygan itself is a nice harbor town with some entertainment:

Just last year I rode from Milwaukee to Sheboygan along this bike trail:

Also nearby is Manitowoc, WI, which has a lively harbor area too,
including the Great Lakes Maritime Museum. We had ridden around Lake
Michigan and crossed the lake on the SS Badger:
