I need to find a good orthopedist specialized in shortening of the
lower extremities that is in P.P.O. (Cygna) and located in Chicago's
Northwest Suburbs (Schaumburg) for my 32 yr old wife. Spanish speaking
is a plus. |

Hi Lachan,
I think your best resource will be the "Find an Orthopedist" database
on the AAOS (American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons) website:
http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/. I'd go look it up for you right now, but
the database is down for work until Monday morning. In the meantime
you might find some of their articles interesting.
If you'd like me to pursue this please let me know and I'll work on it Monday.

Hi Lachan,
I've found an orthopedic surgeon in Schaumburg who is part of the
Cigna PPO network, but he does not indicate online whether leg
shortening is one of his specialties. I would imagine it would depend
on the case. Would his contact information and website answer your
question?

Here is my interpretation to English from the description of the
problem by a Surgeon, in Spanish:
The current sequela is asymmetry, there is a muscular hypotrophy on
the side of the thigh.
We think the cause is a shortening in one leg. Some X-ray images were
already taken (one includes waist, hip, both legs and the ankles).
The proposed prescription could be a corrective insole or footwear.
We want to avoid potential medium- and long- term damage to other bone
structures due to misbalanced forces: sacrum, iliac, or excesive wear
on the hip (more specifically: the femur head in the pelvis cavity).

Hi Lachan,
Are you trying to find a surgeon to give you a second opinion? You
seem to have been given a non-surgical prescription for orthotics to
help solve the problem.
