Question ID: 370598
I am looking for a specific piece to complete the restoration of an
old De Laval cream separator (model #18). I need the bowl nut, which
holds all the discs (unsure if this is the correct term) on the center
piece. I have the threaded piece, but have been unable to find a
matching nut or a machinist who can make the correct nut. Apparently
the threads on the old equipment are not the same as standard threads
today. I have been unable to find the piece I need on ebay or at
antique stores. Modern farm supply companies don't carry it or
anything that would fit. Any ideas on where to find the specific piece
I need or someone who can make it for me? They would have to be able
to cut non-standard threads on the inside of the nut. A regular
tap/die set would not work. I found an old owner's manual for a
similar (same brand, different model) cream separator, so I would be
able to provide diagrams, etc if needed. Thanks!

I've tried 3 machine shops, none of them thought they could do it.
I'm not sure why not. I think it's the threads...

Any good machine shop could make it for you. Try looking in the
yellow pages under auto machine shops.
