Question ID: 370751
I would like to know of any proven techniques / methods of using one's
mind to move physical things, like lifting a book or some other item.
I know this could pass as a silly question, but I find this
interesting. I am notinterested in the history of people who could do
this, I want to know
how I can do this! ;-) Also, is telepathy possible and how is this
achieved? Please, I want only actual ways of achieving the above, if
possible.

Thanks

Researchers are learning to hook electrodes to a subject's head and
teach them to use their thoughts alone to operate a computer. It is
thought that this will be useful for severely handicapped people, to
enable them to e.g. type notes using only their brainpower.

Is this of interest to you?

The expressions
 " using one's mind "
 "use their thoughts alone .."

apppear to be undefined: When I have a idea to a lift a book,
and then use my hand to do it, I am using my mind. If the
electrode pick's up signals in my brain and triggers a machine which lifts
the book, I am also using my mind, but not mind alone.
These two ways do not differ in any significant way and are not classified as
psychokinesis http://skepdic.com/kinesis.html, these are natural phenomena
described by natural science - in this case physics.

But Telekinesis and psychokinesis, as described e.g. here
http://home.xtra.co.nz/hosts/Wingmakers/Telekinesis.html
is supernatural phenomenon, unknown to physics.

So what is the subject of your question?
 Natural or supernatural phenomenon?

Hi, thanks for the quick response guys.

Pafalafa-ga, I am aware of the techniques used in what you are
describing, but this is not what I'm looking for. Thank you for the
help anyway.

Hedgie-ga, I am definitely more interested in the supernatural side of
things. Thanks!

Corwin02-ga , this is what I'm looking for. Actual methods of doing
these type of things. Please elaborate a bit more on your methods and
what makes them work. And ... what does the word "esoteric" mean.
Sorry, English is not my first language! :-) I will try the methods
you descibe and really hope they work. Any other ideas would also be
welcome! Thanks so far! Please elaborate!!

I just want to explain why you (very likely) will not get an
answer from a researcher. You can tell researcher, like pafalafa-ga
from commenter, like corwin02-ga, by color. Researcher's are clickable
(blue) and
are not allowed to answer if there is no correct answer (since their answer
would cost you money).
corwin02- ga may be nice enough to elaborate for free, but if he
does not you can get lot of that by typing 'psychokinesis' into a
search engine. Psychokinesis is one of the 'esoteric sciences' -
those who deal with supernatural phenomena.

And here is a food for thought: Did you ever wondered why scientists,
I mean, natural scientists, leave those para-normal phenomena alone?

Commenter scubajim-ga implies (suggests) that the reason is that they do
not work (I mean the para-normal techniques, not the scientists)
. So, if he is right, than your specifications conflict, and answer
is empty.
So, you will save $10, which is not too bad.

If the specifications of my question conflicts, maybe it wasn't asked
in the correct way. The comment that corwin02-ga gave, is the sort of
information that I'm looking for. I cannot get his techniques to work,
so his answer / comment is not worth the $10.00, even if he was a
researcher. I want techniques, supernatural or scientific to do these
things. If the methods/techniques do not psysically work for me ( and
maybe there is no way of doing this ), the question is invalid or
"silly" as I originally stated.
Sorry for the confusion!! :-)

In conclusion:

As I expected, your question is going to expire unanswered.

We often go an extra mile when asker's first language is not English
and so you are getting this
http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Supernatural
free bonus link.

To put very, very simply: If an effect is 'real' , if it can be reproduced
by different people, well, then it is NOT supernatural, and natural
science will investigate it.

However, we do have a freedom of speach here, and an adage
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=adage&r=67
is

If you have an Open Mind, (some) people will
deposit lot of garbage into it.

I was alone in a bookshop with only a shop assistant nearby for
company when, WITHOUT ANY PHYSICAL INTERVENTION from either of us, a
book fell off a shelf at the other end of the shop.

'Have you got poltergeists?' I asked the assistant.

'No', she replied, 'But we have got Ghostbusters on video'.

Try it!

Some basic techniques i stumbled upon

Dancing Candle Flame

This is a very basic technique.

Light a candle. Relax and focus on the candle flame. Imagine that you
are merging with a candle flame, becoming this candle flame, being
this candle flame. What you're really doing is merging your energy
field with the energy field of the candle.

In NLP terms, by focusing on the candle and tuning into the candle,
you are "pacing" the candle, by directing the flame to move where you
want it to move, you're "leading".

When you feel that you have established good enough "rapport" with the
candle - imagine its flame extending and becoming longer. When you
succeed with this, then imagine it shrinking back, becoming smaller
and smaller; then bending to the side, etc.

When you're done experimenting, just imagine yourself returning back
to your normal state or mind, "emerging" from the candle flame.

Pendulum

This is another basic technique. You can buy a pendulum or make it -
simply attach a small object (e.g. ring) to a string. You could hold
it in your hand, however, this way you'd send unconscious impulses
through your hand, so it's better if you have a pendulum hanging in
front of you (you can attach it to a small stand (like the one's for
table lamps).

Same as in previous exercise, with a candle, focus upon the object
until you create a sense of "oneness" with the object and then imagine
it moving back and forth, clockwise, etc.

There are other techniques which I may post later, which involve
accumulating energy (chi, ki), and projecting it to push the object.

These require more practice.

And, there are still other more esoteric/occult techniques for having
objects appear/disappear at remote locations.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Moving Small Objects

Choose a small, lightweight object and place it on the table in front of you.

Relax, clear your mind completely and focus on your object.

Visualize a "tunnel" between you and the object. The only thing that
should be present in your awareness is the tunnel and the object at
the end of the tunnel.

Now, imagine your mind's hands coming out and pulling the object in.
Once you feel the pull, you might want to make sounds in your head
that suggest a strong magnetic field (nnnn.... nnn.... nnnn.... )

It may sound silly, but it works!

and this book seems to hold quite a few tips

Currently there are NO techniques for doing this. If you think there
are then I invite you to claim the million dollar prize for
demonstrating this ability or technique go to :
http://www.randi.org/research/index.html for more information.

If you don't want the money then I suggest you allow Randi to keep the
money or donate it to a cause you find worthy.

corwin02, have you actually done any of this? If so, as scubajim says,
$1M dollars await you.

beylie, you might find this interesting. I think it reflects the views
of people with a rational naturalistic world view.
