I recently applied online to purchase a notebook through financing.
Initially it looked like if I had been approved, even received emails
from the retailer saying that my order was being processed and the
estimate date of shipping. Later that day, the financing institution
denied the credit due to an input error. Then I received an email from
the retailer saying that my order couldn't be completed. I called both
parties and they assured that the order didn't go through.

A few days later I received an email from the retailer stating that
the order had shipped included a fedex tracking nr. I called the
retailer and they figured out it must have been a glitch in the
system, I was told to dismiss the email because when we wanted to
track the order, fedex's system couldn't find the order associated
with that tracking nr.

Yesterday I received the Fedex Package. Called the Financial
institution and they told me that the account was still under review
and I told them to cancel the account. Called the retailer and
were obviously VERY surprised. I couldn?t deny reception of the
package because the fedex system was now showing successful delivery
info.

Retailer offered me to keep it. They would make the finance
institution approve the credit and I would have to pay for it.

The question is; am I breaking any law keeping the computer? Can the
retailer enforce return of payment anyhow?

Thanks

I meant 'enforce return OR payment...' instead of "enforce return OF payment..."
