Hello littlerayofsunshine-ga, The phrase Hollywood Twin originated from film and television ( Hence the "Hollywood" that show bedrooms having 2 beds (Usually twins or fulls) in them, as it was inappropriate to show a man and woman sleeping in the same bed. However, we can guess that in the real world, more often than not this was not the case, or if it was, the beds got pushed together to form 1 large bed. Hence, the term Hollywood Twin to describe 2 beds pushed together to form 1 large bed. This is why Hollywood Twin is used to describe a larger than average bed, since it usually consists of 2 beds pushed together.
