Question ID: 37157
I am trying to buy a tiny cordless (not cellular) phone for use around
the house. It should be the size of a Startac cellular phone,
preferably with a flip up earpiece like the Startac, a headphone jack
and vibrate alert, if possible. Does this product exist or can it be
located?

Hi there,

I have found just what you are looking for:

Samsung SP-R6100 Cordless Phone
http://www.samsungelectronics.com/cordless_phone/sp_r6100_spec.html

Its dimensions are 4.5 inches x 1.8 inches x 0.8 inches and weighs 3.0
ounces, which makes it lighter, thinner and only a fraction longer
than the Startac (3.7 x 2.0 x 1.0 inches, 3.6 ounces). It has a
headset jack and a vibrate alert.

However, if you live in North America, it does not appear to be
available there - most of the online stores selling it are in the UK.

The smallest available in North America is the Southern Telecom Mini
Phone 900Mhz (3 ¾" long x 1 ¾" W):
http://www.phonemerchants.com/souttel90min.html

Or the 2.4GHz model (4¾" L x 2" W):
http://www.shoplifestyle.com/store/product.asp?pf%5Fid=3570&mscssid=JMS378WG2RW88NL9NSTXG0FSFWVU9CD4

Or the WHF-7000:
http://www.ancocom.com/products/FeatureMini/WHF-7000.htm

Google searches used:

"cordless phone" flip
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22cordless+phone%22+flip

"world's smallest" cordless
://www.google.com/search?num=30&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&newwindow=1&q=%22world%27s+smallest%22+cordless&spell=1

I trust that this answers your query. Feel free to request
clarifications on any aspect of my response.

Best wishes,
from robertskelton-ga

There is also the VTech VT1421A 900MHz:

But when I visited the manufacturers home page I could not find it,
which probably means it is no longer available.

Thank you for your excellent information. The Samsung is PERFECT, the
Southern Telecomm seems too thick and lacks CID, and although the WHF
is a nice unit, it is no longer available.

My question: these Samsung phones appear to be available only in
Europe. Is there any U.S. equivalent available now or expected in the
future? Also, if I purchased a UK Samsung, would it be possible to use
it within the U.S. or are U.S. and European phone systems
incompatible?

Hi again,

I emailed Samsung UK and asked them if the Samsung SP-R6100 would ever
be available in the USA, and if the European model would work in the
USA, and the form email response said:

"Please call 800SAMSUNG"

It's a US number so you could try calling them.

So I emailed the USA site and they replied with a link to the product
page. Now I am awaiting a reply from their Korean headquarters.

The warranty for this model purchased in the UK is not valid for any
other countries.

It would require an adaptor for the electrical plug:
http://www.dvdoverseas.com/voltage_converters.htm

and a telephone jack converter:
http://www.globalsources.com/tradeshows/computextaipei/supplier/49/88000032/88023516/04/details.htm

Using the adaptor and convcerter it should work in the USA - I could
not find anything to the contrary on the Internet

Excellent! Very thorough and well-researched. This is what Google
Answers is all about. Thanks to you and another researcher, I have
purchased the Samsung phone you had located. Well done!
