I read somewhere recently that Texas is desperate for teachers, and is
accepting applications from people who have only a B.A. degree.
Is this true? Can I apply online?

Hello.

Yes, it's true.

See this article:
"Non-certified college grads will be able to teach grades 8-12"
http://www.dailytexanonline.com/news/2004/04/06/StateLocal/NonCertified.College.Grads.Will.Be.Able.To.Teach.Grades.812-652291.shtml

Here is the official information on this program from the Texas State
Board for Educator Certification"
http://www.sbec.state.tx.us/SBECOnline/certinfo/tempcert/tempcert.asp

The site mentions that, as of June 8, the Gonzales Independent School
District was offering these temporary teaching certificates:

Application information at the Gonzales School District:

search strategy:
uncertified teachers texas
"teaching certificates" texas

I hope this helps.

Note that it's also possible to get a teaching job and simultaneously
enroll in a certification program:

"I read somewhere recently that Texas is desperate for teachers."

Yes, they are. Unfortunately, Texas, home of President Bush,
consistently ranks among the lowest states on education and other
public services due to its fear of raising taxes. Sound familiar? I
hope you get the job--they sure need you. You would be doing the
children of Texas a favor. Good luck.
