I'd like to know why sometimes pictures or images in websites or e-mails are not shown in my computer screen. I only get a small square with a tiny red X in it. Even if I right click with my mouse on the X and then click on the command "display picture", nothing happens, I keep getting the small red X. This happens just sometimes, not always, but I haven't been able to find a pattern. This is so annoying, why is this happening and what can I do to avoid it? | |

As well as the reasons given in the MS knowledge base, probably a very common reason is that the picture is simply not available to your computer. This may be because the picture is no longer at the location (URL) addressed by the web page, or because the webserver is not letting you have it (perhaps the website has exceeded its bandwidth allowance and the server is refusing requests for pictures to cut down on bandwidth use). Does the problem happen with any particular website(s)? Owain |

This can also occur due to a lack of resources, and mean that your PC simply needs a good hard drive cleaning, particularly if you are using Windows 98 (but not ONLY if you are using Windows 98). Complete instructions to clean up your hard drive: www.theofficeexperts.com/cleanyourpc.htm |
