How do you start or set up a national association? I want to set up an organization that is a support group for women on a national scale, but I want it to be an "official" association. Exactly what steps are necessary to do this in NY state? What fees are associated with this? And how long does the process take? Is this something I can do on my own or do I need a lawyer? |

An "official" association - I don't really know - I used "official" for lack of a better term. What I want to do is set up a legally recognized association. Is a license required? Does it have to be registered somewhere if I want to charge a nominal membership fee for the support services I want to provide. I'm sure there's more involved than just saying that I've started an association called ----- and I am now accepting members. |

Maybe you mean "formal" rather than "official." Are you talking about something like articles of incorporation? |
