I have an IBM Think Pad Trans Note with Windows 2000 professional.

For some reason my "Documents" of recently used documents empties
itself when I shut down. How can I correct that to not empty itself
and to keep the 15 most recently used documents.

Press the start button, click on run.
Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE).

Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\
CurrentVersion\ Policies\ Explorer.
They are like folders, you'll have to browse for it.

Double-click on the NoRecentDocsHistory value in the right
pane - if it's not there, create a new binary value by that
name.
Change 01,00,00,00 to 00,00,00,00

Repeat the last two steps on the NoRecentDocsMenu value.
You'll have to restart Windows for the change to take effect.

I can provide more detail if you need.
