Please help me find a way to recycle the following products. You need
to find out if the place that takes them allows small scale rather
than commercial amounts of waste. I am willing to send these items by
postal mail to be recycled, but preferably there would be a drop off
place within 25 miles of Baltimore. The items I want to know about
recycling are:

Lithium Batteries
Regular single use batteries
CD/Jewel Cases/Cassette/VHS Tapes
Soy/Juice Box Cartons
Hard plastics such as water bottle or laundry detergent lids

I need names and addresses of facilities that accept these things so
that i can actually give these items to them.

Hi, Papoose,

You have chosen some hard to recycle items -- these are the things
that trip me up as well in the day to day recycling of used products
in my home. Some of the items can be dropped off locally, but others
only have larger facilities that accept them and you'll have to send
them via post.

In order of the items you listed:

BATTERIES (all types)

Cambridge Iron & Metal Company,
901 South Kresson Street,
Baltimore, MD 21224

CDs and JEWEL CASES

surface transportation to Plastic Recycling Incorporated, 2015 South
Pennsylvania, Indianapolis, IN 46225. 317-780-6100."

** This is a hard one to recycle. See CASSETTES as well.

CASSETTES

Audio cassette tapes are made from tensilized polyestyer, which
doesn't fall into any of the normal recycling areas. I haven't been
able to track down a recycler that met your needs (neither by mail nor
local to you).

The Maryland Recycles website indicates there is a company in Florida,
so I suspect there isn't anything local available. The Florida company
is http://www.sunvalleyworldwide.com/ and seems to only do large
amounts, and only from businesses, but anywhere in the US. Perhaps if
you get together with some other groups, you can create a large enough
amount to make it worthwhile to them?

Location:
Sun Valley Worldwide, Inc.
1801 S. Federal Hwy, Suite 30,
Delray Beach, FL 33483

SOY/JUICE BOX CARTONS (aseptic boxes)

These can go in your normal recycling bin with milk jugs, glass
containers, et cetera in some areas. Some parts of Baltimore are
experimenting with adding them to the recycling stream. You should
contact the people at the Public Works Department for more information
about whether you can put these in your blue box/blue bag at (410)
396-5916.

HARD PLASTICS

You need to know the type of plastic (1-7) that is being recycled, as
different places take different plastics.
Recycler's World ( http://www.recycle.net/recycle/Plastic/ ) has a
good reference for what different types of plastics are. The ones
currently being recycled by the city are only #1 (PET or PETE) and #2
(HDPE).

Try these guys. I'd call, but it's L/D
and I don't get any cash for answering
questions.

They can at least tell you where to
get most items recycled. Don't know
about those tapes.
