Hi raul0419, How many continents are on the earth? By most standards, there are seven continents - Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. "In Europe, many students are taught about six continents, where North and South America is combined to form a single America. Thus, these six continents are Africa, America, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, and Europe. Many geographers and scientists now refer to six continents, where Europe and Asia are combined (since they're one solid landmass). Thus, these six continents are Africa, Antarctica, Australia, Eurasia, North America, and South America." About: Geography http://geography.about.com/library/faq/blqzcontinents.htm I hope this helps. If you have any questions regarding my answer please don?t hesitate to ask before rating. Best regards, Rainbow |

I agree 6, figuring Europe and Asia as one is most logical. If we choose to reguard North and South America as a single contenent then it would be logical to not reguard Africa as separate from Europe and Asia = 4 continents, one 2/3 of the world's land mass, with Austrailia and Antarctica tiny by comparison. Europe and Asia have been considered separate for at least 1000 years, so it is also logical to consider this error grandfathered in and say the Earth has 7 continents = Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, Antarctica, Austrailia and South America. We may never have a consensis. Neil |
