I am US citizen that wishes to move to the Liverpool to pursue a music
career. Through all my own research it seems as if they only want rich
children or already sucessful musicians trying anything like this.
Every possible visa or work permit oppurtunity I have discovered has a
time restraint forcing me to possibly jump back and forth from the US
and the UK and constantly apply to come back until I have enough years
to gain residency. Along with the time restraints there is always a
stipulation that you have to completely support yourself in the UK
with money you bring (hence only rich kids) and not do any work over
there other than performing (hence only already sucessful bands).
If England is anything like America it is very hard to instantly
support yourself as a working musician. I am 21 and have performed as
a drummer for 6 years and studied percussion for over 8. I began
college at Bostons Berklee college of music, and left for free real
world knowledge. I have worked in my own relatively small hometown as
musician in a band that is an established business, but Ive always
continued to need to work another full time job. It became very
obvious to me that if I was really going to make a living as a
perfomer I would have to move to a larger city. I have saved over 5000
dollars to prepare for the move, and have prepared for over a year
now. I know they are just trying to stop people from just moving over
there to chase a dream, and ending up broke and as a burden on the UK
when you could have done just the same back in the US. I just need to
know how to let them know that I will not be one of those people. I
have everything I know I need to be sucessful over there except
permission
to live and work there.
