I am searching for Music by Harpo Marx. Not from the CD you can find
at Half.com or in the CDDB listings, but music from his movies. Movies
like Go West, Cocoanuts and A Night in Casablanca. I've downloaded
some of the original recordings from file-sharing clients-the quality
is poor.
I would like an Mondern Harpist artist recording of the original
Soundtracks, performed solo, as Harpo did in the movies.
Answer
There is no answer at this time.

I'm going to post this as a comment, since it doesn't quite meet your
specifications. However, it's unclear to me whether " ... the CD you
can find
at Half.com ..." you're referring to is "The Marx Brothers Sing and
Play", which does seem to meet your other parameters. In any case, you
might want to look at
http://www.evl.uic.edu/pape/Marx/audio/SingNPlay.html

for a full track listing. Best price does seem to be at half.com at
$50.80.

Hope that works for you.

Rico-

Yes, I am aware of Sing & Play. The problem is that alot of these
recordings are from the '20's and very poor...... just as the songs I
downloaded from file-sharing clients. In fact, they are probably from
the Sing & Play CD.
My search is for a modern release with a new Harpist rendition of the
old Marx Brothers soundtracks.

Sorry, I should have paid more attention
to the final sentence in your question.

I have found the answer to be elusive.
It seems harpist greats like Robert Maxwell
might be a bit too jealous to redo Harpo
stuff. And I haven't found any others yet.
I'll try to look more later.

You make a good point, Paul, according to a thread in
alt.comedy.marx-bros ...

" ... The sound quality is not too great, as the tracks
are taken directly off of prints of the film rather than the original
source tapes ..."

Unfortunately, I was hoping that since the packaging states, "studio,"
the music was from the source. Full thread is at ...

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&c2coff=1&threadm=3BA7329D.56A6641B%40hotmail.com&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fq%3DMarx%2BBrothers%2BSing%2Band%2BPlay%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF-8%26hl%3Den%26btnG%3DGoogle%2BSearch

You might want to ask your question of the group, although as far as I
can determine, no contemporary harpist has specifically covered Harpo
Marx music. The mind does kind of boggle at the idea of "Deborah
Henson-Conant Plays Harpo" though. :-) In fact, it'd probably be a
good project for Deborah, who's a friend of mine. I'll suggest it the
next time I see her. But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

One last suggestion. Harpo's son, Bill Marx, maintains a Web site at
...

http://www.marxmemories.com

Once you get past the portal page, you might want to check out the
"Izit Real" section at ...

http://www.marxmemories.com/izitreal.htm

... and ask your question directly of Bill, who promises that he'll
respond to questions by email. Also note the "merchandise" section
(which isn't enabled, unfortunately), and Bill's CD "Echoes of the
Past," which while piano rather than harp, looks like it may contain
covers of some of Harpo's music.

Hope a question to the internet group or Bill Marx aids in your
search. An intersesting research project. Sorry I couldn't find
exactly what you wanted.
