Greetings, dutchuncle!
When you say that you "click on view", do you mean that you are
pulling down "View" on the menu in the upper-left corner of the
browser window and then selecting "Source", or do you mean something
different?
Does this happen when you access a particular website, or does it
happen on any website?

Hi researchers, As clarification: I am using IE 6. Not using
"view"-buttom from menubar, but trying to open square on opened page,
in order to view the text. Note: The page is in "secure mode", i.e.
with lock showing. Maybe problem has to do with cookie ? or
Java-script? My system can open 124-bit encryption - but not this
darned square, alas ! Please help !

Hello dutchuncle,
After reading your latest post in the comments area, I believe that
you need into install the Adobe Acrobat Reader and then your problem
will go away. The links on the page:
http://www.plextor.com/english/products/product_promotions.html that
you mentioned link to PDF files (they are opened using the Adobe
Acrobat Reader).
To fix this problem, go to this website:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html and download the
latest version of the free Adobe Reader. You can disable Photoshop
Album 2.0 if it gets automatically selected as an option. Downloading
the latest version will properly associate pdf files with Adobe Reader
and your problem should be solved.
Please let me know if you need any clarification regarding this
answer and I will do my best to further assist you.
All the best,

Hello dutchuncle,
I want you to try opening adobe reader and opening the URL that isn't
working in internet explorer directly.
1. Open Adobe Reader
2. Click File and then Click Open.
3. Paste this URL into the file name box
http://www.plextor.com/english/products/pdfs/50%25%20Off%20PX-AV100U%20with%20PX-708%20rebate%2001Jun%20to%2031Jul04%20(2).pdf
4. Click on Open.
What happens when you do this?
Next I want you to try the following:
1. Got to http://www.plextor.com/english/products/product_promotions.html
2. Right click the link '50% Off the price of PX-AV100U' and click on
Save Target As...
3. Change the 'Save in' box at the top to 'Desktop'
4. Click Save.
5. Go to your desktop and press and hold SHIFT while you right-click
the file, and then click Open With.
6. In the 'Choose the program you want to use' box, click Adobe Reader.
7. Make sure the check mark is ON for 'Always use this program to open
this type of file'.
8. Click OK.
9. Restart your computer and try the URL again.

In the first set of instructions, replace the URL with this one:
http://www.plextor.com/english/products/pdfs/PX-504A%20$30%20rebate%2001Jan%20to%2031Jul04.pdf

What happens when you double click the file on your desktop? Does it
open properly in Adobe Reader?
For step 5, try right clicking without using the SHIFT key to see if
it will work then.
Keep me up to date,

dutchuncle,
I would also like you to try uninstalling Adobe Reader (go to the
control panel, add/remove programs) and then reinstall a fresh copy of
it. If it is unable to open up the corrected URL in the first set of
instructions (this one:
http://www.plextor.com/english/products/pdfs/PX-504A%20$30%20rebate%2001Jan%20to%2031Jul04.pdf
), then something is probably wrong with the application itself and an
uninstall/reinstall should fix that.
All the best,
