Yesterday I could not shut off the computer. Instead of "It is now
safe to shut of the computer" a blue window appeared informing me that
error occurred at 014f:00005ec9 and advising me to press either enter
or ctrl-alt-del. Neither of these got me out of this blue window, and
the only way to shut it off was to plug it out. Does anybody know
what happened and how to avoid this in the future or what error
014f:00005ec9 is?

It happened again. But this time I forgot to mark down the location
where error occurred

Hello Vaac,
One possibility could be a registry error, as "blue screens" on shut
down can be caused by this problem. Try getting a free registry
cleaner, like the old version of Regcleaner, and fix your registry.
Also, try looking for a Windows update that may solve shut down
problems; if you're using Windows 98, I recall that there is a patch
for settling shut down problems. So I guess that's one time for you to
use 'Windows Update' in Internet Explorer.

It happened again for the 3rd time but this time I copied more of the
information of the blue message:"A fatal exception has occurred at
014f:000058c9 The current application will be terminated."
Does anybody know what that means, or if 014f:000058c9 is an
address, and whether this address can be viewed by debug or someting
els to see what is going on there

This could be a number of problems. I would start with checking you
have ACPI enabled in your BIOS (to do this, refer to your user
manual.. Normally the BIOS is accessed by pressing DEL or F10 or F2 on
most computers at the bootup screen before windows loads).

Let me know how you get on..

It may not happen the next time you shut down.
