Hi there,
I bought
a DELL PC which came with Windows 98. Later, I got Partition Magic
and then installed Windows 2000 as the second OS of a dual boot system
using BootMagic 7.0. I was able to boot into either win98 OR win 2000
without any problems.
A few months ago, I was doing disk defragmenting on windows 98 --
during this process, the defrag program told me that some file
fragments(in the C:\ root drive) were orphans(or something to that
effect)
and if I wanted to delete them. I confirmed the DELETion of a few orphan
files. After the defrag operation, when i tried to RE-Boot into the windows 98 OS,
I get the message
"Invalid System Disk.
Replace the Disk and Press any Key..."
I believe that the defrag program might have moved key windows 98 OS
files and bootmagic is not able to get the bootstrap code for windows
98. I have misplaced the backup disks that I got when I installed
PartitionMagic. Is there a way that I can get back to boot into
windows 98 ?
Even though I can still boot into Windows 2000(which is installed on
Drive F:), I want to use some of the programs which are still on
Windows 98.
I found that the C:\ root drive had config.sys, msdos.sys, io.sys, etc
I also found a file on C:\ called "BOOTSECT.DOS" which has the following contents.
"Invalid system disk˙
Disk I/O error˙
Replace the disk, and then press any key
"
Now, how do I go about getting the Win 98 OS to boot again ?
BTW, I have partitionMagic and BootMagic installed on the windows 2000 OS also
(SystemDrive=F:) so I can NOW use both these programs.
Thank you very much,
Best Regards,
