I am changing computers. Unfourtunately, all my music is stored on my
old one. What is a cheap and easy (I'm no computer expert) method of
transfering these files onto my new computer. I do have an iPod which
also has all my music on if that makes any difference. I live in the
UK. Thank you.

Hello Rai130

If all of your music is on your iPod you should have nothing to worry
about - you can simply plug your iPod into your new PC and transfer
the songs across. You can think of your iPod as a removeable hard
drive that has all your music stored on it. I have also regularly
used my iPod to transfer other files (such as movies and pictures) to
another PC by simply storing them in the "Data Files" folder on the
iPod.

If you use iTunes to transfer your music to your iPod you can find out
more about transfering your music from computer to computer here:
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/windows/authorization.html

Note that iTunes songs are allowed to be played on up to 5 different computers.

The iTunes support database is located here (note especially the
section on "Transferring your music"):
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/windows/

1) To move all your music across to another PC you simply need to
ensure that all of your music is on your iPod and transfer any music
that is not onto iPod as you would normally.

2) Once you have your new PC, install your iPod software as per the
original instructions.

3) Copy your music from your iPod to your new hard drive using the
iTunes (or similar) software.

Incidentally I use the XPlay software for transferring all my music
from my iPod to my PC. I find this much simpler and quicker to use
than either MusicMatch or iTunes. This can be downloaded for a free
30-day trial from http://www.mediafour.com

There is also a techie solution to this problem which involves
removing the hard drive from your old PC and putting it into your new
PC but as you stated you were no expert I think the method using your
iPod is probably the easiest.

If you have any further questions or queries regarding this subject
please ask for clarification and I will do my best to help.

Thank you. I did not expect it to be this simple... I thought there
would be some sort of block stopping one from transferring from iPod
to PC.

I have a apple computer and ipod both have all my music on them. I
just bought my son a mini and loaded music on his mini. I then loaded
itunes on his PC. When I tried to connect his mini to his PC I
couldn't without the itunes telling me it had to reformat his mini
which will erase his mini's music files. Does anyone know how I can
take my ipod (from an apple computer) music and transfer it to another
computer which is a PC?
