There's plenty of information out there on Largilliere, who is quite
well known for his portraits of mostly upper middle class patrons.
But so far, there's nada on Mlle. Dubois. Research is made even more
difficult by the fact that Dubois is a fairly common name of the
period, offering many possibilities for who she might have been, but
no firm leads.
Is there any other information -- about the painter, or about the
prominent Dubois' of the time -- that would meet your needs?
Let us know.

I'm attempting to establish whether Largilliere's Mlle. Dubois could
have been one to whom I have a genealogical link. The year the
portrait was painted would establish a greater probability. To be the
Mlle Dubois in question, the portrait would need to have been painted
late in Largilliere's career - specifically between 1743-1748. As to
information on the Dubois' in question, my research indicates they
occupied grace and favour apartments in Blois Chateau - certainly in
the 1740's. Concrete evidence of the date of the portrait would go
pretty far in satisfying me - evidence of her identity would be even
better!

You might be out of luck on this one.
Largilliere died in March of 1746 at the age of 90, and the latest
reference I can find to any of his paintings is dated 1741. He
resigned as the Director of the Académie Royale in 1742 due to health
reasons -- I seriously doubt there is much (if any) of his paintings
to be found dated much later than 1741-42.
For the moment, I'm afraid I cannot find information that is any more
definitive than this. Hope it helps, though.

Ah... Subject I had in mind was born (if my information is accurate)
in 1731. I doubt the lady in the portrait is as young as 10 or 11, so
probably not the exact Mlle Dubois I had in mind. However, hope
springs eternal that it could be the older sister!
I'd still be interested in the exact date of the portrait, and any
information as to the subject's identity, if you can locate it. You
never know - might still be the same family?
