I was not able to locate patent information for Plaxo and
Goodcontacts; however I can provide you with the following TRADEMARK
information for both companies.
- Serial Number
- Filing Date
- Owner of Record
- Attorney of record

I've found two patents for GoodContacts, and two patent applications
that simply mention GoodContacts, but are not from them.
I've not found any patents from Plaxo, despite mention in a news
article that there supposedly exists such patents.
Should I post info on the two GoodContacts patents as an answer to your question?

I've seen reference to the Plaxo patents too, and searched on the
USPTO site but wasn't able to find them. Hence the submission here. I
would like to get this point resolved.

Hello again,
I have access to a patent-search database that searches the full text
of the patents, and is much more comprehensive than the header/keyword
type searching that the USPTO site seems to be limited to.
I cannot prove the negative. That is, I cannot say for certain Praxo
never filed any patents. However, a search on the word Praxo does not
produce any results. I also searched on the names of some of the key
executives at Praxo, and again, no patents turned up.
As I said earlier, I did turn up several GoodContacts results.
Given these sort of results for an in-depth search, can you provide
any guidance for how you would like your question resolved to your
satisfaction.

Hello pafalafa-ga,
Apologies for taking a while to come back to you.
I also saw an article mentioning Plaxo patent
(http://www.globespancapital.com/news_04-05-04.html) and think I went
through roughly the same process as you mention, which led to posting
the question here.
I'd like to wait a bit longer and see if anything further comes up.

Nice to hear back from you.
The more I look at this question, the less convinced I am that Plaxo
ever filed patents on their process:
--their site makes frequent mention of their copyright, but says
nothing about patents
--a thorough search of the patent records does not turn up anything
--as far as I know (and I admit only a superficial knowledge here),
Plaxo's system is software, and software is generally copyrighted
rather than patented.
--the sole newspaper article reference to Plaxo's "patents" is pretty
ambigous -- it's not at all clear who is asserting that Plaxo has
patents, and how they might know this.
Having said all this...it's still all pretty circumstantial, and
perhaps there are Plaxo patents after all!
Let's wait a while, and see if anyone else sheds any light on this.
In the mean time, I'd appreciate hearing back any thoughts you might
have on the above.
