I hate reading the paper. Too many editorials. Too much fluff. But I
DID enjoy Pointcast. I could customize it to get news *I* wanted and
skip all the rest. What I REALLY liked about it was that I could
download all the newsfeeds/articles and do my reading off-line.

You'd think I'd be able to find something this many years later but I
can't. I've tried some newsreaders/aggregators but never figured out
how to download anything more than the headlines. I gave AmphetaDesk a
shot but lost interest looking for the download everything option
having to look at their big banner the whole time. I don't remember
which others I've tried. Maybe they'd be better now. It's been a while
since I've tried.

What I want is like the choices I got at Syndic8 but in a format that
I can download. SouthEast Asian headlines, Bangkok Post headlines,
filters that would bring me news if it mentions key words I specify,
etc. This seems pretty standard and they all talk about having these
things but it just seems like you get cut out categories: sports,
stocks, world news, financial news...

For the answer what I'd like is

1. to know which aggregators will let me download, say, once a day and
take all the news with me.

2. and is there anything special I need to know to get it to download?

Thanks for any help.

Have you tried Newz Crawler?
http://www.newzcrawler.com/

I'm not sure that it's exactly what you are looking for, but it may be
worth looking into. Along with downloading the headlines and summaries
from RSS feeds, it allows you to download the entire webpage for each
individual article, so you can view the full article offline. You can
set it to download automatically at various times of the day. Head off
to work, come back and you'll have articles waiting to be viewed
offline.

I use it, and love it. It's very simple to use, though after a (I
think) 30 day trial period, you have to purchase it to continue using
it.

Thanks raln, I downloaded Newz Crawler today and remembered the
problems I had with it before. I could never figure out how to get it
to download but today I had better luck. I guess you have to go into
each news feed?s properties and subscription options to do it but at
least it works. Now my only problem is where did Syndic8 go? Oh well,
at least I got this far.

Thanks again!
