In Florida, the Probate laws applicable to a decedent usually apply
as of one's date of death. When did the amendments to the Florida
Probate code as shown in Ch. 97-102 (of the Florida Legislature's
laws) become effective? Were any from Ch. 97-102 effective prior to
October 1, 1998? If so, which ones and what was the specific effective
date so that I'll know who who died in 1998 before October 1, 1998
would be affected. If all Probate changes from Ch. 97-102 became
effective only as of October 1, 1998, then for anyone dying before
October 1, 1998 their estate would not, as a general rule, be affected
by the changes in Ch. 97-102.

If so, anyone who died before that date might have to use the laws in
effect before Ch. 97-102. If If so, which ones? If some were effective
prior to October 1, 1998, which ones were those? Best way to answer
is to look at the "Laws of Florida" for 1997 and look up Ch. 97-102;
effective date listed there. Would take me about 10 minutes or less if
I were in a law library.

I'm afraid you may have the wrong reference.

Florida Law 97-102 was just a routine code revision to replace sexist
language ("he" with "he or she," etc.).

Are you sure you don't need some other law?
