to simplyfy things for starters a CSU/DSU is the 'modem' for a T1 line so if you are connecting a T1 for this company you DO need one the order is as follows Dmarc->CSU/DSU->router->Switch or hub , the modem is for either a callback system or a fall back system or maybe for maintenance see here for a simple setup http://www.more.net/technical/netserv/routers/cisco1720/images/dsu-router-connection-t.jpg |

added to this if the router has a build in csu/dsu you of course do not need an extra one |
