William Hinton wrote "Fanshen" about his experiences in Long Bow,
Shanxi Province, China during the land reforms of the early 50s. I
have a copy of the book. Inside the front cover the name "Egnals
1967" is written. In the book
itself, on a map of the village, "Egnals" is written in by hand after
a handwritten number 11. The number 11 which is also marked on one of
the houses in the village., implying that Egnals lived in that
building. Who was Egnals?
