I want information about the artist who painted an oil painting that
is in my possession.  It is a still-life, and is signed and dated. 
The date is clearly legible, "1911", but the last few letters of the
signature are illegible.  The portion of the signature that I can see,
appears to read:"R. Tschuo...".
My question(s) are: What is the probable name of the artist?  General
information about the artist; birth, death, studied art where?  Is the
artist's work collectible?

This artist signed his paintings similar to the way you have described. 

I have not been able to find out much about his life, although I have
the dates of his birth and death and place of birth. I also have the
price one of his paintings was sold for at an auction in New York in
2000.

The artist you may be talking about could be: TSCHUDI, Rudolf.  Born
1855 - 1923.  I don't have any more info on him.  But he painted still
life and landscapes.  One of his paintings sold for $2300 in May 2000,
which was a still life with grapes and apples.
