Hi, zaker!
You don't say what version of Windows you're running; that might be
helpful. But first, I'll walk through it with you again.
*Right*-click on "Start" in the lower left-hand corner of Windows;
select "Explore". Pull down "Tools" in the upper left-hand menu and
select "Folder options". Click on the tab marked "File Types".
Scroll down the list until you find "DOC" listed under the
"Extensions" heading. Below, it should say "Opens with Microsoft Word
for Windows". If it doesn't, you will need to change it to point to
your Word executable path by clicking "Change" and selecting
"Microsoft Word for Windows" from the list that pops up (this may take
a little while), then clicking "OK", and "OK" again.
If the "DOC" extension is already assigned to Microsoft Word, are you
sure that the document you are trying to open is not an html document?
Is it one that you created, or one that you downloaded from the
Internet?
If your system is currently set to hide file extensions, you may not
see anything after the filename. You can tell what type of document it
is by *right*-clicking on it and selecting "Properties".
If you're still having problems, please post as much additional
information here as you can (full name of file, where you saved it
from, information listed under "Properties", etc.), and we'll go from
there.
Before Rating my Answer, if you have any Questions about the above
information, please post a Request for Clarification, and I will see
what I can do for you.
Best Wishes,
