goggie,
I believe the song youa re asking about is "Malagueña",(in English
it is usually written as "Malaguena" written by Ernesto Lecuona, a
child prodigy and pianist , born in 1896 in Cuba. Malagueña was his
first composition, part of, Andalusia, Suite Espanola, 1927 .
It is about the Malagueña, a girl from the town of Málaga, Spain,
who is being seranaded by a poor young man who is in love with her.
(the "n" is acutally an "en-yay", or this symbol "ñ")

La Malagueña Saleros, by Ramirez and Galindo is a different song, and
is a mariachi song. You can see the lyrics to the other song here:

http://www.elmariachi.com/songs/la_malaguena.asp

The lyrics, to the Malagueña to which you refer are found here:

http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/m/malaguena.html
but I will post the Spanish version (best sung by Placido Domingo):
          Malaguena
 written by Ernesto Leuona

Malaguena de ojos negros
Malaguena de mis suenos.
Me estoy muriendo de pena
Por tu solo tu querer.
Malaguena rebonita te queiro besar.
 Malaguena de ojos negros
Malaguena de mis suenos.
 Me estoy muriendo de pena
Por tu solo tu querer.
 Malaguena rebonita te queiro besar.

Try the version by Placido Domingo.....you will love it!

Hello goggie,

I also thought you were looking for the word “Malagueña.” Malagueña
is also flamenco music from Malaga, Spain. See
http://www.terrencefarrell.com/MalaguenaVideo.html.

This link (http://personal1.iddeo.es/pflamencaacr/m.html) gives a
definition in Spanish for malagueña. I believe that portions of the
definition translate roughly into “[i]t is considered prototype of the
‘cantes de Levante,’ derived from ancient fandangos of Málaga, and
transformed into a flamenco species during the first half of century
XIX thru its most significant interpreters. It is not, today, music
for dancing. Its accompaniment by guitar is achieved by playing it
always from the top, and presents a great melodic richness. It can
also be accompanied by tone of taranta and tone of granaína. Many
diverse modalities of malagueñas exist.”
