I would like to obtain ideas and information regarding what kind of
information technology innovations could be used at a big,
metropolitan newspaper in order to drive that newspaper's business.
For instance: how could datamining be used to reduce subscriber churn
or target new subscribers? Ditto regarding advertisers. Where,
typically, are the inefficiencies within a newspaper's operations that
could be addressed with new IT measures?
Thank you.

Marcfest --

Can you be a little more specific? Newspaper companies have typically
become "information" companies -- so information technology drives
existing print and dozens of new businesses. Looking at a company
like the Chicago Tribune you have dozens of information-related
businesses within the Tribune Company: other newspapers, wire
services, full market coverage operations (the mailers with
supermarket ads), web sites, radio, TV and even a baseball team (where
IT = Sabermetrics).

Best regards,

Dear Omnivorous - Thank you for your clarification request. I realize
my question is quite broad. Taking the Tribune example, it would
pertain to all the business components you list. To make my request a
bit more specific, I'm especially looking for innovative ways of
applying information technology that would *directly* result in
increased revenue in the respective department / segment. Thank you.
