Hello Andy75

Unfortunately Yahoo Geocities does not support the .co.uk domain
names. There is information on this in the Geocities FAQ here:

http://search1.cc.dcn.yahoo.com/cct_search.php?brand=yahoo&ui_mode=answer&prior_transaction_id=164574836&action_code=5&answer_id=438657#__highlight

It appears from this that Yahoo Geocities only allows .com, .org and
.net domain names so you will not be able to use them as your website
host.

There are a number of alternative hosting options open to you
depending on your budget. As it appears you are in the UK I would
recommend getting hold of Internet Magazine or .net magazine
(available from your local newsagent) and flicking through their web
host section at the back of the magazine. These magazines also have
websites but I always find something written on paper easier to use!

There is also a wealth of information on the following sites (and
others found through searching on Google):
http://www.findmyhost.com/
http://www.webhostmagazine.com/
http://www.hostdirs.com/

An additional word of advice for you would be to take care when using
online hosting comparison sites, many of them are heavily sponsored by
different hosts which means that these hosts get more favourable
reviews. Double-check any web host and their reputation by searching
through Google and Google Groups for bad reviews and/or
recommendations from other people.

If you have any further questions regarding this subject please ask
for clarification and I will do my best to help.

Hello Andrew

At Google Answers we are not supposed to make personal recommendations
so unfortunately cannot really give you any real yes or no answer
here. Personally I would NOT go with any of the large companies (that
spend more on advertising than their customer satisfaction - you will
see large advertisements for these companies in the magazines I
mentioned).

As for UKHost4U you may wish to read these comments carefully:
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&q=ukhost4u

Obviously any bad reviews will be from disgruntled customers so should
be taken with care and try to weigh these up against how many
customers they have. A company with 10 customers and one bad review
would be worse than one with 10,000 customers and one bad review!
Google Groups is a good place to find people with a grudge to bear :-)

You may also wish to look at these web pages and make sure you ask at
least some of these questions to the host before signing up for
anything (I would also try to get a trial period out of them and test
their customer service for speed and efficiency by asking very stupid
questions!):
http://www.netmechanic.com/news/vol2/hosting_no5.htm
http://www.free2code.net/tutorials/webdev/25/Questions_to_ask_before_signing_up_hosting_service.php
http://www.activewebhost.com/articles/top_webhost_questions.htm
http://www.workz.com/cgi-bin/gt/tpl_page.html,template=3&content=2313&nav1=1&
http://www.freshefuture.co.uk/HostQToAsk.htm

If the host is unwilling to answer the questions, I would also be
unwilling to part with any of my hard earned cash.

I'm sorry I cannot be much more positive here but I have been burned
in the past by companies I would perhaps have recommended to you. If
you do need any more information please ask again for clarification
and I will do my best to help again.
