Hi, I was wondering what has the effect of the internet been on Canadian Postal Services. One would assume that due to email, it would reduce thier business, but i am sure that on the other hand, things like ebay provide more business. THanks! |

Hello, Canada Post's 2003 Annual Report discusses this issue. It says "electronic substitution" is the biggest risk to lettermail revenue, which has been declining by 1% to 2% a year since 2000. As a result, CP has focused on increasing the value and convenience of value-added services such as Registered Mail, Business Reply Mail and Mail Production and Delivery Service. Parcel service has done better, but CP has had to deal with fierce competition in recent years in that area. CP has also tried to develop its own e-commerce products, notably epost, an online bill delivery and payment service.
