Looking for a software application that provides a "front end" to a
standard PC for use in public. Application should present some
customizable menu choices (e.g. Games, Puzzles, Information, whatever)
while also allowing part of the screen to be showing some video (e.g.
advertising) or scrolling text, etc. Must be fully operable with a
gamepad (Logitech wireless) and look classy.
Clients can select from the menu/sub-menu, which then launches the
application, keeping track of what was run and how long for, so
billing can be done when finished. Although internet connection not
initially available, should have the facility to control access in the
same way, once added.
Ideally looking for shareware so it can be evaluated for ease of use
and flexibility. |

Hi Joseleon,
Yes, I did consider these, and they may be a possible source for
something that would suit, even though the PC will not be connected to
the internet (though this may be a possibility at some stage). Think
of it like the entertainment systems provided by international
airlines. The "advertising" screen could be showing video or
Powerpoint or other graphical information until someone selects a menu
option (e.g. games). When a program is selected and launched, the
counter would start. There needs to be a way to exit and start a
different program - don't forget there will be no keyboard or mouse,
only a games controller.
