"MONCKS CORNER--Lorenzo Taylor went to the Berkeley County Courthouse
on Wednesday to witness a court hearing for the man accused of
shooting Taylor in the face and killing his two cousins last fall.
When it was over, the 20-year-old shooting victim was in jail.
After Circuit Judge Markley Dennis set bail at $30,000 and ordered
retired constable Albert Nole under house arrest on two counts of
murder and one count of assault and battery with intent to kill,
Taylor stood up in court.
Sheriff's deputies said Taylor charged toward Nole, 68, who was
sitting in a wheelchair about 15 feet away on the other side of the
courtroom.
Deputy Solicitor Blair Jennings heard a disturbance and turned around.
"He was coming out of his seat about three or four rows back on the
left side of the courtroom," Jennings said. "He had to get past a lot
of people but before he could, the deputies were around him."
Taylor's mother, Doretha Taylor of Jamestown, said her son was just
getting up to leave.
"He didn't say a thing," she said.
Taylor was charged with opposing or resisting a law enforcement
officer, a charge that carries up to 10 years in prison and $10,000 in
fines."
