Hello

Not quite as easy as you’d think to get a list of advocacy
organizations for the disabled in New York City. There is so much
good information on the net for sight and hearing impaired people and
for handicapped people but only a handful of organizations have
headquarters or chapters in NY city.

Advocacy re physical disabilities:

TASH Advocates for "equity, opportunities, social justice, and rights
for people with disabilites"
Has a NY metro chapter and you will find contact info at:
http://www.tash.org/chapters/newyorkmetro.htm

(Please note I’m not putting contact details that look as if they
might be personal phone numbers or emails into this answer, just
giving you the links.)

Queens Independent Living Center says it supports those with
disabilities -including advocacy work - throughout the city .

140-40 Queens Blvd., Jamaica, NY 11435
718-658-2526 (voice) * 718-658-4720 (TTY)

People impaired by multiple sclerosis have a group "advocating for
equity, opportunities, social justice, and rights" at:

I don't know if you would be interested to hear about organizations
with chapters across the country but still needing someone to set one
up in New York City:
http://www.adapt.org/startgrp.htm
"fighting so people with disabilities can live in the community with
real supports"

self help for hardof hearing:

You may want to comb through the following sites and directories.
There are many excellent resources but I think I've picked out those
(all or most?) that meet your criteria of advocacy within New York
City for the groups you mention.

As a disability rights activist, I happen to know that "Disabled In
Action" or "DIA" is a long-standing New York City group. Getting in
touch with them would be a good starting point:

May I add The Associated Blind www.tabinc.org and its "NYC and beyond"
web site eSight Careers Network www.eSightCareers.net which offers
tools, information and resources for qualified blind and partially
sighted people looking for rewarding, competitive work.
